Central Mongolia - Around Ulaanbaatar
Within minutes of leaving the excitement of the urban center of Ulaanbaatar you will find yourself in a different world where nature is king.
From the moment you are out of UB you are surrounded by beautiful pristine landscape and nomads trekking with their herds. Within 20 mins of leaving the city center you are transported to a different world. To the northeast are the alpine-like Terelj (see Khentii mountains). Whichever direction you travel out of the city you don’t have to go far to see something beautiful.
- Make a short tour to the sand dunes of Mongol Els and the steppe lake Ogii Nuur
- Visit the old capital Kharakhoram and the old Turkish runes of Khar Balgas.
- Take a few days Jeep tour and hike through the rock formations from Zorgol Khairkhan Uul.
- Ride camels at the sand dunes of Ar Burdiin Els.
In the south of UB there are Gobi like landscapes, with bald rock formations and even sand dunes just a half-day drive from UlaanBaatar. To the west are waving grasslands – within a day’s drive you can arrive at the beautiful lake Ogii Nuur. To the north are beautiful forested, mountainous areas.
