A central feature of Central Mongolia are the Khangai Mountains which rise to peaks of 3500 meters above sea level. This area is the ideal place for horse riding, kayaking and discovering the traditions of the heart of Mongolia. Central Mongolia is a green area with forests to the north, wild flowers and streaming rivers to the south and with the endless wild steppes of Mongolia in the center. There are also numerous hot springs to relax your tired limbs after a long day of exciting activities.
In the valleys, nomads still travel around with yaks and camels, while higher in the mountains dwell wolves, bears and the occasional elk. It is an ideal place for trekking by horse or on foot. To the east of Khangai is the city of Karakhorum, founded by Chingis Khan and the capital city of Mongolia over 800 years ago.
