North Mongolia & Lake Khovsgol

One of the most mystical and magical places in the world.

North Mongolia is especially known for its famous Lake Khovsgol, the smaller brother of the nearby Lake Baikal to the north in Russia. The clear crystal blue lake reflects the soaring mountains and sky, surrounded on all sides by massive green plains. It is ideal for swimming and fishing; you can also enjoy trekking and horse riding through the gorgeous mountain passes that lead to Siberia.

  • Drive by Jeep to Khovsgol Lake and go hiking or trekking with horses around the Lake
  • Trek with horses through the dense taiga and across rivers towards the reindeer people, stay at their camp and  experience their culture,  witness a Shaman ceremony.
  • Take a boat to visit the shores of lake Khosvgol.
  • Witness the ice festival that takes place every winter on lake Khosvgol.

Further north, near to the border with Russia, one of Mongolia’s most extraordinary minority groups continue a very unique nomadic way of life. The Tsaatan, with their Native North American Teepee style nomadic tents, still herd reindeer and some practice shamanism. On the way to lake you can visit Amarbaysgalant Khiid is an ancient, once ruined and now restored Buddhist temple.
