The Gobi is a harsh but diverse environment with sand dunes, rocky expanses and surprising lush spots. It is generally sparsely populated but Nomads still travel around the Gobi with their herds of horses, goats, sheep, and of course camels.
Wild animals such as gazelles, argali goats, antelopes, desert bear and snow leopards also inhabit the Gobi, alongside eagles, vultures, cranes that descend upon the few lakes for a quick refill whilst en route to or from summer breeding grounds.
In this apparent arid landscape, deep fresh-water wells and a few salt lakes somehow manage to sustain thriving levels of life. Animals and people alike survive in this unforgiving environment. Despite its scortching summer heat, there are still patches of snow left over from the winter to be found in deep mountain passes. The Gobi is a mystical destination truly out of this world!
